Lets start this forum with something controversial.
Keith's film scores in the main have been disappointing, whether it is the time contraints, not having full editorial control or whatever I would rather Keith had concentrated his vast talent extending musical boudaries elswhere.
I am sure that writing a film score is both demanding and challenging for the composer, but the results don't do much for me. Sure there are one or two gems, the main theme from La Chiesa in particular, but most of the material does not stand up to repeat listening.
Lets hope that the new album delivers on the promise that has been around since ITHS.

I've got the boxed set of Keith's film music ... They are without doubt my least listened to Emerson CDs!

I happen to think that Emerson's talent as a film music composer is extraordinary. I guess that I should say that his talents are extraordinary... because, I feel to be a good film music composer, one also has to be a very good orchestrator. And we all know what excellent work Emerson did composing his Orchestral Compositions on Works Vol. 1 Each time I listen to his Piano Concerto #1... I fall in love with it all over again. I realize that he has kinda gotten away from scoring films in recent years, however I personally would love to see him doing work in the area of "film music". Just my opinion...

I'm by no means suggesting that Keith's talent as a film music composer is in doubt, but the problem with the CD set of film music is that a number of the tracks are very short, and so the CDs as a whole seem very bitty to listen to. I find very short tracks make it hard to get into the music.
I''d like a CD of his film music whereby either some of the shorter stuff is dropped, or worked up into much longer tracks.
Living with a prog rocking keyboard player, I like my tracks at least 5 minutes a piece! ;D ;D ;D
