You've probably all received the E-mail from "Keith Emerson Info", regarding the faked Moog Modular System, being offered on EBay... but I thought I'd re-post it here .... just so we'd have a copy on the forum. (Some people will do anything, to try and make money) ....................................................................................... KEITH EMERSON NEWS & UPDATES Just a quick note:Please don't bet on this ebay item. It's a fraud! (We are working on removing the listing) cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220692890768#ht_69456wt_1172

Hmmm.... Been thinking on this one. The thing is, a modular synth is just that: Modular. You take a set of modules and configure them into a system of your choosing, and then wire them up in various ways to make glorious noise. Now, for years Keith's previous synth tech Will Alexander kept the Moog modular alive, and to do this, I believe he used to buy up old modules as and when he saw them for sale, and used the many parts to swap out dying modules while other modules were being repaired, etc. Keith's own site once had a long interview with Mr Alexander in the Tech Talk section which touched on keeping the modular on the road (or sometimes not!). So I guess Keith's modular is 'original' in the same way as the old carpenter's best hammer: "I've had this hammer man and boy, I've only replaced the shaft 12 times and the head twice" Anyway some years ago there was a falling out between Keith and Mr Alexander - There was a statement on Keith's site distancing himself from the man, I don't know the ins and outs, and frankly it's none of our business anyway, suffice it to say that Will Alexander is no longer part of the KE team - Keith's current keyboard tech is Keith Wechsler, and he new has the onerous duty of keeping the 42 year old highly complex beast alive. So, I'm guessing the story is that Will Alexander has/had in his possession a whole bunch of modular parts, casework, etc, enough to put together a complete system 55, and this sale item is it. However, it certainly isn't the configuration of Keith's current modular - It doesn't have the dual sequencer modules for a start, and Keith's system contains at least one custom module designed by Bob Moog himself to allow a level of pre-programability, which is, I believe, unique. Does this one on eBay contain modules used by Keith? Possibly. Is it Keith's modular? No.

Hopefully, they've gotten all that EBay stuff cleared up.... I thought it was strange, to advertise that this Moog system was once owned by Keith.... somehow, I just don't think that he'd be selling HIS Moog Modular System. After all, it truly is a piece of Progressive Rock history...
